Jack Joseph Prather

Jack Joseph Prather is a multiple award-winning strategic public relations (SPR) and marketing consultant with three decades of experience in media relations and publicity, crisis-problem management and resolution, special projects, community relations, communications and planning.

He served as the PR consultant to the winner of the 1993 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award presented by President Clinton in Washington D.C., founded the Playboy Resort regional foundation in New Jersey where he was director of public relations for 10 years, and was adviser to two U.S. Congressman, two state legislators, and county and local officials.

He has been in the PR trenches solving problems and advancing successes for diverse clients in hospitality and leisure, healthcare, small business, land development, commercial real estate and manufacturing, as well as for non-profit organizations, entrepreneurs and professional firms.

Prather has also partnered or consulted with medium and small advertising and public relations agencies, demonstrating a unique ability to respect protocols, proprietary interests and confidentiality.  He has conducted numerous PR seminars for small businesses and non-profits, and practitioners and students.

He founded The Prather Group in New Jersey in 1978, became chief strategist  for a Roanoke VA agency in 2002, and relocated to Hendersonville NC in 2005 where he combines PR consulting with freelance writing.

Prather authored the 276-page guidebook All PR is Local (Amazon/isbn 0972084703) in 2002, The Public Relations Bluebook in 1986, and The Power of Public Relations video in 1991.

As a journalist, Prather won Best Column in All Divisions among six editing and writing honors from the NJ Press Association, as a PR consultant was given the Award of Distinction from the National Communicators, and as a writer received magazine awards for fiction, poetry and copywriting.
