Jack Joseph Prather - bio

Jack Joseph Prather is a multiple award-winning Strategic Public Relations (SPR) consultant with three decades of experience in media relations and publicity, crisis-problem management and resolution, special projects and, community relations, communications and writing, and team-building and project planning.

He served as the PR consultant to the winner of the 1993 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award presented by President Clinton in Washington D.C., founded the Playboy Resort regional foundation in New Jersey where he was director of public relations for ten years, and was political adviser and campaign consultant to two U.S. Congressman, two state legislators, and numerous county and local officials.

Jack has toiled in the PR trenches solving problems and advancing success for diverse clients in a variety of industries: hospitality and leisure, healthcare and insurance, small business and manufacturing, commercial and industrial realty, manufacturering, as well as serving legal and environmental professionals, non-profit organizations and entrepreneurs. 

He has uniquely and successfully partnered or consulted with diverse advertising and public relations agencies, demonstrating an unchallenged ability to respect protocols, proprietary interests and confidentiality. 

Jack has conducted numerous Strategic Public Relations  seminars at colleges and universities, and inside companies and businesses.  Attendees include mid-level PR practitioners or marketing personnel from a variety of businesses and organizations, and business marketing and journalism students.  

He founded The Prather Group in New Jersey in 1978, became chief strategist  for a Roanoke VA agency in 2002, and relocated to Hendersonville NC in 2005 where he combines PR consulting with freelance writing.

Prather authored the 276-page guidebook All PR is Local (Amazon/isbn 0972084703) acquired by Amazon in 2004, The Public Relations Bluebook in 1981, reprinted in 1986, and The Power of Public Relations video in 1991.

In January 2007, his "SPEAKING UP in Poetry & Prose" was introduced and is featured at the Carl Sandburg National Historic Site.  His modern epic novel "The Day of the Knights" was published in 2009, and his novella "The Star Killer" is scheduled for publication in 2011.  Jack's books are available at Amazon.com, at bookstores by request, or  via a detailed e-mail request to prathergroup@aol.com.  

Honors: Among numerous career awards, Prather as a journalist won "Best Column in All Divisions" among six editing and writing awards from the New Jersey Press Association, as a PR consultant was given the "Award of Distinction" and other recognitions from the National Communicators, and as a freelance writer earned  magazine prizes for non-fiction and fiction articles, poetry and newsletters.
